Well, I sometimes
wonder how things would be
If Adam hadn't eaten fruit from that tree
That God told him not to eat, I guess, to see if he'd mind.
Now, easy marks
were Adam and Eve
The first two folks that Satan deceived
But what they went and done hurt all mankind.

Lucifer was
given immortality
I don't know why, with his immorality
I trust God's got a plan for Satan I can't see
He was thrown
from Heaven when God found out
This angel was there, shootin' off his mouth
'Bout how his name should be up there, on the marquee.

Satan shoulda
said "I'm sorry" right then,
But pride consumed him, so he aimed at men
Thinkin', "Here's an easy target that's not too smart."
His goal is
to separate God from man
No one's immune from his awful plan
From the day we're born till the day we each depart.
After Adam,
there was his own son, Cain
Beat his brother Abel till he was slain
'Cause Abel's gift to God was greatly favored.
God warned men,
don't act like a fool,
Treat each other right and don't be cruel
Then men invent new evil to be savored.
Each generation
thinks they can resist
Satan's power 'cause they don't think he exists
And that's been his greatest victory from the start.
King David was
a man of God and still
Satan was a-waitin' with a lust to fill
On the roof, Dave forgot God for that young tart.

Everyone's tempted,
sooner or later
Maybe it's hard-wired in by our Creator
To see how we resist, or how some of us don't.
God chose Abraham
and his descendants
To live holy lives and independent
From all of Satan's evil to which men are prone.
But the battle
is hard, every day
Fightin' evil takes strength, and that means pray
For God to get you through without givin' in.
The Israelites
stumbled so many times
It's a lesson to learn, don't do the crimes
If you don't want to be on the list God keeps of sin.
Evil is real,
though you sure can't show it
Whisperin', "Go ahead, who's gonna know it?"
But it chips away at the good that lives in you.
Sins start small,
you can barely even tell
Next thing you know, you got one foot in hell,
And you drop down on your knees and ask God what to do.
You may hear
a voice saying, "Welcome back." (2 beats)
Or maybe hear nothing, 'cept a distant "crack"
That's Satan hittin' the walls of hell over one more soul.
On your knees,
you can speak to God's own Son,
Jesus, the Savior, and admit all you've done
And for your sins, you expect there'll be a toll.
But God the
Son paid the ultimate price
He died to give you eternal life
He took our sins upon Him and was crucified.

So, think about
Him, and His precious gift,
When evil intrudes and your life starts to drift, and say:
(TACET) "Satan,
get you gone, and stay gone, and keep goin' 'til you get to hell!
But you won't be seein' me there like you thought! Thank you, Jesus!"
